Frequently Asked Questions

How do you walk to the base of the monument without risking your life in traffic?

Access to the base of the Arch is strictly underground. There are two dedicated pedestrian tunnels (called the Passage du Souvenir), whose entrances are located at the beginning of the Champs-Élysées and on the opposite side of the Avenue de la Grande Armée. Attempting to cross on the surface is strictly prohibited and dangerous.

The Charles de Gaulle – Étoile hub is extraordinary: in addition to three metrolines, it hosts the RER A line, which allows you to reach the La Défense financial district in just 5 minutes or the Gare de Lyon train station in less than 10 minutes, bypassing any traffic jams.

The twelve avenues generate constant traffic, especially during rush hour. However, hotels in the area are required to comply with strict soundproofing regulations, installing triple-glazed windows that drastically reduce engine noise.

While the southern avenues are dominated by offices and showrooms, the northern quadrant offers excellent food markets. The focal point is the covered Marché Lebon market, located a short distance from Avenue des Ternes, ideal for purchasing fresh produce and traditional cheeses away from the commercial circuits.

The old metrostations in this central hub still feature several flights of fixed stairs. Those traveling with bulky luggage or those with limited mobility should opt for surface bus lines (such as lines 22, 52, or 73), which stop directly on the sidewalks of the main avenues.

As a strategic business area, rates skyrocket during major industrial and conference events, such as the Auto Show or the fall fashion weeks. To get the best prices, plan your stay during the summer months or on winter weekends.
